Dilaudid is an opiate used to treat moderate to severe pain. It's also used at the end of life in terminal cancer patients. Dilaudid is sold under the brand names, Darvon-N and Dolcontin. Oxycodone is a semi-synthetic prescription drug used to manage moderate to severe pain when treatment with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) and acetaminophen (paracetamol) fail. If a patient needs more than 240 mg of oxycodone per day or can't tolerate other medications, they may benefit from taking this medication.
